Belle’s reading/comprehension levels!

Today Belle took this reading/comp evaluation:  http://www.test4free.com/

Phonics evaluation:

Quote:
Our test indicates that your phonics ability is above average. The following results show which phonics areas need improvement:

Quote:

1. VOWELS (the letters a,e,i,o,u)
Short vowel discrimination: Confusion with short vowels that sound similar.
i/e
Long vowels: Difficulty with the rules for making long vowel sounds.
ai (rain); ee/silent e (meet, mate); ea/oa (each, boat); igh (night)
R-controlled vowels: Difficulty with vowels that come before the letter ‘r.’
ar/or (far, for)
Vowels combinations: Difficulty combining vowels.
ou/ow (lord, mow)

2. CONSONANTS (all letters that are not vowels)
No problems found with seeing or hearing consonants.

3. WORD STRUCTURE (word endings, word order, syllables)
Word order: Reverses letters within words. May indicate a visual or auditory discrimination problem. (night as nihtg)

Spelling: Difficulty remembering how certain words should look.

The part I made purple doesn’t concern me much, but it is something that as she gets older I will see how she improves. My sister does have an auditory discrimination problem. And dyslexia runs in my family quite strongly–often going undiagnosed for a long time because they are also gifted and are still ahead. But she is only 5, so I am totally not worried about it at this point.

Comprehension evaluation:

Quote:
Assuming that BELLE tried hard, was not careless, did not make wild guesses or give up too easily, we estimate that BELLE’s reading level is above average.

Quote:

Independent Reading Level*: 3rd grade
Instructional Reading Level**: 4th grade

* Independent Level: This is the level at which you can read by yourself with no help. You should choose books at this level to read for fun.
** Instructional Level: This is the level at which you should practice your reading strategies with help from a more experienced reader. to improve as a reader.
You will probably have difficulty reading materials beyond your instructional level unless you have a strong interest in or prior knowledge of the subject.

2nd grade level books!

I am reading second grade level books most of the time now.  Yay!  I am reading a lot faster than I was even a few months ago.  I taught myself to read beg. books when I was 3–close to 4.  For the last 2 months or so I have been reading everyday because I really love to read.  And I am getting so excited that I can read much longer books now.
